Machine Translation Post-Editing for High-Volume Content.
Machine translation post-editing (MTPE) involves a qualified human translator reviewing and correcting the output of a trained MT engine. The result is a document that has been touched and validated by a specialist linguist -- but at a lower per-word cost than full human translation from scratch. MTPE is appropriate when volume is high, the content type is relatively formulaic, and delivery speed matters more than maximum linguistic quality.
We offer MTPE for appropriate content types including product descriptions, technical specifications with standard sentence structures, repeat-pattern legal boilerplate, and internal communications. We do not offer MTPE for patient-facing medical content, legal agreements where precise language has direct legal consequence, sworn translations, or original literary or marketing content where voice and style matter.
For MTPE projects, we assess the MT output quality before accepting the project, since the value of post-editing depends on the quality of the raw MT output. If the MT output is below a usable quality threshold, we will recommend full human translation and explain why. We work transparently about which approach gives better value for which content type.
